Elleni and Jason: Downtown Washington DC Engagement Session

Megan, he called again!

It’s what she holds onto, the hope. Because every time he calls, every time she hears his voice on the other end of the line, it’s reassurance. Reassurance that no matter what is going on over there in ‘his world’ thousands of miles away, that he is ok. Hearing him speak, regardless of what words come out of his mouth, she can cut right through what he is saying, and decipher what he is really saying. And the hope that she holds onto, is the same hope that brings him home safely every time.

Elleni and Jason, umm, you guys rock! Spending the afternoon with you guys was so much fun. I couldn’t ask for a better friend girl, and I’m SUPER EXCITED for August. And Jason, be safe on your next deployment and get your butt back here. Oh yea, and regardless of how many times she’s heard your stories… it was my first time for all of them! I love love love you guys, Megan Beth

One of the very first frames I shot, and I love them.

My magazine collections.

I laid on the couch watching the sunny blue sky and puffy clouds, and couldn’t help but notice the group of kids making their way home from Folger. Jealous, very jealous, that I was stuck inside while everyone was outside playing. And then there was a knock on the door. My FRIENDS! They handed my mom a box, yelled to me to get better, and told me they’d see me tomorrow.

Being the highlight of my boring day watching soap operas with mom, I propped myself up from the couch to open the box. Tissues. Stickers. Fancy pencils and paper, you know just in case I didn’t make it out alive from the cold and had to write them a letter and mail it ACROSS THE STREET. And magazines, but not just any magazines, THE COOL ONES!! People, Teen, BOP and Tiger Beat…ones that I had never owned because Alberta only subscribed to Better Homes and Gardens. All enclosed with a small note: “Feel better! -J.C.C.” I flipped through the pages, getting the latest scoop on Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and couldn’t help but feel like I had the best friends in the world, with the biggest hearts.

They handed me a mask to put on as the hood on my navy blue sweatshirt flopped over my face, and an IV hanging out of my arm as I shivered on the stretcher in the ER triage. I texted Mom, “I want to go home.” And sure enough a few minutes later she walked in, she tried to hide the tears, but I had the flu, I wasn’t blind. It was the best face I had seen all day. We made it home and she pulled out her bag and told me she brought me some magazines. And although the selection was a bit different from all those years ago, the gesture meant just the same. I have the best friends in the world, with the biggest hearts. Thank you mom, I love you!

Helen’s Anytime Session: Catonsville, Maryland

There are times when you meet a family, and you click. You know that you could walk in their house anytime and pull up a chair to dinner and they would welcome you with open arms, and then maybe ask you what you brought for dessert. When I met Kathleen and Mike’s family at their wedding, friendships were made, bonds were formed, and I felt like a part of their family. I soon realized it wasn’t just a business deal. So when Mike’s mom Betty asked me if I would do a session with Mike’s sister Helen, I of course was thrilled.

Especially cause Helen is gorgeous.

And this is where I asked Betty if we could take her daughter to the shoulder of a interstate to get shots of the wild flowers. I was slightly afraid to ask, and to my surprise, she was totally up for it, and found a great way to get to it. LOVE when people trust me that much!

Burritos, yes please!

There are nice people in this world. They open the door for you, give you a peppermint patty when you’re at the gas station, and let you go ahead of them in the grocery line when you only have one item. And then, then there are my clients. They send me the most amazing thank you notes that bring me to tears (thank you Kim!), birthday cards (thank you Kathleen), and packages that ooze with awesomeness (Jill and Devin, you guys are so sweet!).

I’m not quite sure what I did to deserve such amazing clients, maybe it was the time I picked up a random old guy in the snow and gave him a ride home, or when I wanted to go back and save the squirrel I accidentally hit, but I do know that I am truly blessed. Meeting couples and having them want ME to be with them on the most important day of their lives is such an honor. Every couple is different, every love story unique and every friendship I form, cherished. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story with me, trusting me, and being the most amazing clients I could have ever dreamed of.

Courtney and Chris: Downtown Annapolis Engagement Session

Although I love meeting new couples and being part of their big day, I must admit, getting to photograph people I know is truly a great honor. Courtney and I went to high school together, and when she contacted me to shoot her wedding, I was super excited. Courtney and Chris are getting married next year in Richmond at the Main St Train Station, and I know it’s going to be nothing short of amazing.

Karen and Chad: The Great Oak Manor Wedding!

Everyone was hustling around The Great Oak Manor trying to get ready, and HE wanted to come in the room…IN THE ROOM?! The girls gasped as they tried to figure out why he wanted to come in the room where she was getting ready. Don’t you know you’re not supposed to see the bride before she walks down the aisle, the girls said. He knodded, I know, but I need to tell her something.

Karen scrambled into the nearby powder room around the corner. She stood behind the wall nervously giggling while trying to contain the bottom tulle part of her dress making sure he couldn’t see any part of it. Chad made his way in the room and peeked around the first doorway with his eyes closed. Karen…I just wanted to tell you that I love you. As if the smile on her face wasn’t beaming brightly enough, she lit up and took a big deep breath, I love you too Chad, see you SOON!

Karen and Chad, thank you so much for waiting so patiently for this post. You two are an amazing couple with energy like I have never seen before. It seems as if your love beams out every blink and inch of smile, because it just can’t be contained inside. I feel so blessed to have been able to photograph your wedding, and witness not just the beginning of your lives as husband and wife, but a continuation of your devoted love. Thank you to all your wonderful friends and family for making it such an awesome day. Love, Megan Beth

Karen and Chad did some major researching and timeline planning to make time for their own little photo shoots. They found this old rustic barn down the street in Chestertown, and it made the perfect backdrop for some amazing images.

The Great Oak Manor: Karen and Chad’s Wedding Sneak Peek!

When it rains, it pours. This was a hail storm. My computer and car had to poop-out at the same time, so here I am playing catch up on editing, emails, and sanity. One surprisingly good thing about not having a computer, I actually made it to bed before 4am. Craziness I tell you. Karen and Chad have been so patiently waiting for this post, and I promise the full thing is coming soon (and so many other phenomenal shoots)…I just had to post this sneak peek from their amazing wedding at The Great Oak Manor in Chestertown, Maryland first thing after I plugged my computer in.

Kirsten and Brad: Catonsville Wedding

They say you find love when you least expect it. And love was the last thing Brad was looking for after his big move from Arizona to Washington DC. Friends. He was looking for friends. And back in Arizona he found his friends at the Roller Derby, of course. After settling in he decided he would check out the DC Roller Derby scene with friends, and there, indeed he met one. She was petite, strawberry sun kissed hair, radiant smile, and with the most amazing laugh. And friends they became, they were inseparable the whole evening. Mutual friends and on lookers couldn’t help but notice, commenting that they thought ’something big just happened.’ They went home that evening wondered if the other was feeling what they were feeling.

They say you find love when you least expect it. Or at the Roller Derby.

Kirsten and Brad, witnessing your friendship and love is truly amazing, and I feel so blessed to be able to photograph your wedding. You guys balance each other out so well, and your charisma for life together is undeniable. Your friends and family are wonderful, and are obviously so supportive and thrilled that you have found each other, literally coming from the other side of the world (hi Aussies!) Thank you so much for sharing with me your beautiful, intimate day. Love, Megan Beth

Also, a huge thank you to Melissa for driving all the way up to help me. You rock girl!

Kirsten’s mother has the most amazing gardens, a beautiful and obvious choice for the wedding to take place.

I loved her vintage 50’s retro heels, they suited the style of the day so well!

Kirsten was the twenty first person in her family to wear this amazing veil on her wedding day.

The headband, the J.Crew dress… so perfect for a backyard garden wedding.
KB05

She had the biggest, brightest smile on all day.
KB08

Brad…looking so handsome in his European cut suit.
KB11

Kirsten and Brad opted to see each other before the ceremony which, of course, resulted in a romantic and special moment for just the two of them. Not only did it leave plenty of time to get pictures of the two of them, it allowed them to enjoy the whole cocktail hour with their family and friends.

Kirsten and Brad planned the entire wedding themselves in literally a couple of months. Not only did they do an amazing job, look at all the amazing details. WOW.
KB20

The fabulous Dionysus Kitchen was on hand with the freshest, organic most delicious food. When asked if they had anymore yummy figs, their response was, oh yes we grow them in our backyard, we’ll be right back. Could it BE anymore fresh?
KB18

Finally man and wife. BD+KH
KB01

Kirsten’s stepdad gave the most heart warming and touching speech. I don’t believe there was a dry eye in the house.
KB10

Kirsten and Brad are avid (pro) Bocce players, and it was a huge part of their big day. They offered for me to give it a whirl, but I declined seeing as I was amongst some of the best, and probably would have completely embarrassed myself. I’m going to practice at home, then take them up on their offer.

Let the games BEGIN!

His and hers Bocce balls…of course.
