Lions, and Tigers, and Birthdays, Oh My!

Yes, the rumors are true, tomorrow is my birthday. Gulp, I have to admit, I kinda didn’t want it to come. ANOTHER YEAR OLDER…AGAIN? But, when I think about the past year, I am amazed at how far I’ve come. It certainly has been the good and bad, and yet I have grown heaps. I breathe a little deeper, love a little stronger, and try not to take the people I love for granted, because really, things can change on a dime. I’ve learned that with age comes difficult times, pain, and struggle. And life will constantly throw curve balls at you just to see if you can handle it. I GET it life, enough with the curve balls.

I’ve learned that you have to work endlessly hard for something you are passionate about. I would have never in my wildest dreams, imagined that I’d be sitting here today with my own thriving photography business. Me. My Business. Wake up in the morning when I want, business. It’s amazing and I feel so blessed to be able to do something I absolutely love and share it with so many people. It’s such hard work, but the kind comments and emails from people who appreciate my work, warm my heart and push me along when I feel like giving up.

I’ve learned that family is the most important thing in the world to me. I knew it before, but I think this past year something changed, they are the core of my soul. In times of need they have never once let me down and without them I couldn’t have gotten this far in life. Without them, I truly would be lost. They know me inside and out, and still love me despite the obnoxious singing, always wanting to go to Outback, and the won’t get the camera out of their faces tendencies I have.

I’m super excited to see what the future holds for me, sigh, even if that means another year older. In honor of my birthday, I thought I’d share some of my favorite things that I love…things that make me, me. YES MY VACUUM MAKES ME HAPPY.

Kim and Geoff: William Paca House Wedding!

He woke her up before sunrise and told her of his plans to take her hiking and out for a nice dinner. Being half asleep, she heard him mention about how he wanted to suggest what she wear for dinner. Obviously this ‘outfit’ suggestion couldn’t wait until sunrise. He felt for her hand under the covers and after first getting the wrong finger, slipped on the most gorgeous sparkly rock you have ever seen. They were already best friends, now they were to start as a new team: husband and wife.

Kim and Geoff, your wedding was nothing short of spectacular and I can’t tell you how exciting it was to be able to photograph it. It is clearly evident that you guys are truly best friends and I promise you, that will take you so far in life. Your endless supply of laughter, high fives, and support will get you through any bumps in the road. Thank you for letting me witness your love. And keep ON DANCIN’! Love, Megan Beth

Gateway Florist in Annapolis did an amazing job with Kim’s florals. By far my most favorite bridal bouquet. Kim added a personal touch to it by bringing the Succulents all the way from her garden in Cali.

The whole wedding made the trip through the streets of downtown Annapolis, by foot, from the William Paca House to the Annapolis Yacht Club.

The gardens at the Paca House are unbelievable. Everywhere you turn there is something beautiful blossoming.

Brides can pretty much get anything under the sun on their wedding day. Kim: OH my goodness what an awesome dog, would you mind if we borrow her for a second? Dude runner: Certainly! Apparently she was a Great Dane PUPPY. Yikes, she was already bigger than me!
Ely028

How cute are they?
Ely010

I heart this one. Probably my favorite from the day.

Kim and Geoff allotted tons of time for pictures with just the two of them. Every couple deserves beautiful wedding photos and when enough time is scheduled to create those photographs you are more relaxed, and comfortable. This creates the fabulous, amazing photos with YOUR personalities shining through.

Madeline and Matt: Anytime Shoot!

I had so much fun over the weekend during this shoot. The locations were ROCKIN, the weather was gorgeous, and Madeline is absolutely adorable. Matt was looking for something a little bit urbany, and edgy, so Hampden, Baltimore, MD it was. There were so many little corners and colorful buildings to shoot…I was in photog heaven…if there is such a thing.

Madeline is quite the ham.

Melissa and Matt: Towson Golf and Country Club Wedding!

She made her way out of the club house, with her posse of family lingering a few steps behind, letting her know they were there for her, but to see her on to this new journey. She let down the train of her gorgeous beaded dress on the sun kissed sidewalk, as she spotted him in the distance. And he stood there waiting, waiting for his beautiful bride, and best friend to arrive. As she made her way down the little hill, she stopped for a moment took a deep breath, as to make sure she remembered this moment forever. They faced each other and all of their nerves were wiped away and overcome by joy, happiness, and a few tears. Because there they were together forever, best friends.

Melissa and Matt, you know I adore you guys in every single way. Your love for each other, family, friends, and your dogs is like none other. Your laughter is contagious, and truly lights up the darkest of rooms. You are the dream couple to photograph with the warmest of hearts, and treated me (and Alberta) only like family. I am honored to have been able to photograph your wedding and be there on one of the most special days for you. Please remember to keep taking those deep breathes, and savoring the most amazing moments. Because it’s those moments that will get you through the hardest of times. I hope you guys had a blast in Jamaica, Alberta told me you were super tan…not gonna lie, I’m a little jealous. Love always, Megan Beth

They met at Towson University so it was only fitting that they wed at the amazing Towson Golf and Country Club, and it did not disappoint. Every view was absolutely breathtaking.

Melissa and Matt decided to see each other before the ceremony, which I think is JUST FABULOUS! They got to talk, breathe, and be in each others arms alone, before the madness began. I cannot recommend it enough, plus it leaves tons of time for relaxed photos and explore the venue to find awesome niches for creative unique photos from the day!

Casey007

Matt’s reaction to seeing Melissa made my eyes get all watery…weird.

My only qualm with Towson Golf and Country Club, was the bee hole in this building. Let’s just say I’m highly allergic. So it was my job to photograph, and they were The Bee Patrol. And a fine job they did, looking fabulous and all!

Navigating through the forests.

A mountain cabin all to ourselves, and fresh powder outside our door. Closing up the weekend we promised we’d do it a again, but in the mean time we had to get back to school. We packed up the cars, and I jumped in the car with dad. Keys in. DOO…Dooo…dooo. Dead. On a mountain. In the snow. To be totally honest, I wasn’t that surprised. We spent most of our childhood rowing, ROWING people, back and forth all of our lunch meats, sodas, tubes, and suntan lotion out to dad’s sailboat only to find the battery dead as a doornail. And if this didn’t happen, it was the exception to the rule.

In true mountain fashion the first repair man couldn’t come look at the car until the next day, so dad stayed. We piled all my stuff in Brian’s car, I jumped in the back and we headed home. This was also back in the day when GPS’s were only in jet airplanes and our only navigation tool was this ridiculous piece of paper called a map. And we see on said map that there was a much more direct route that we should take home, instead of the non sense directions dad had given us. Of course.

Shortly after, we find ourselves in the middle of the deepest forest that ever lived. Trees as tall as buildings blocked what little sun there was, and the mountain roads seemed to be modeled after roller coasters. Fun, right? MAYBE FOR THE FIRST TEN MINUTES. Two and a half hours later I’m in the back DYING, pleading, begging for the FOREST TO END. I was car sick, for the first and only time in my life. I need sunlight. I need the road to stop winding right and left, and twisting up and down that I don’t know which way was up and which was down. I knew there would be an edge, an end to the forest and the sunlight would come out, I just couldn’t see it.

And today, I find myself in the same forest. Trying to keep my head above water. Trying to stay motivated and focused while doing the most amazing circus balancing act the Ringling Brothers have ever seen. It’s not easy, not one bit, but every day is a learning experience. And everyday I make mistakes and grow from them. I know there is an edge to the forest, I’m just eager to get to it. Because that’s what life is all about, holding on when you get stuck in the forest, and listening to your fathers’ directions IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Since no post is complete without a picture…here is some loveliness of me shooting at Kim and Geoff’s wedding. Alberta was trying to document my fearless middle. of. the. road. standing. wedding. photography abilities.

Kathleen and Mike: Cheaspeake Bay Beach Club Wedding!

The storm clouds lingered and when I say lingered, I mean it POURED and then would let up briefly. But even with a ‘little’ rain and cloudiness Kathleen was as calm and as laid back as ever. There was no wiping the smile off of her face. It was indeed a perma-smile. As she made her way down the aisle with her farther, she fought hard, fought really hard to keep the tears from streaming down her face and the big overjoyed smile on her face at the same time. As she stepped towards Mike, he comforted her in a way that only he knows how, and dried her tears. Because he’s her ying, to her yang. They balance and calm each other in times of need. And that day was no different.

Kathleen and Mike, I am so honored that I was able to photograph your amazing day. Your families (and friends!) were so warm and welcoming. Your relationship is truly a gift, and admired by all. Your abilities to go with the flow, and comfort and compromise with each other has only made you two stronger in the last several bajallion years. I wish you guys a lifetime of happiness and laughter! Love, Megan Beth

Kathleen and Mike were married at St. John’s in Severna Park, Maryland, and then had a beautiful reception at the Cheaspeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville.
