Melissa and Matt: E-session!

We met up outside of the building. The building that started it all. She was taking a break in between classes, and he thought she was cute. Because, well, she is. As we walked around Towson’s campus they reminisced about how things had changed since they had been there. Little did they know the most important thing had stayed the same, their love for each other.

I’m so excited for Melissa and Matt’s wedding this weekend, it will be nothing short of wonderful. I am honored to have them as clients, but more importantly as two new amazing friends.

Mary and David: Key Bridge Marriott Wedding

She had been dealing with it for a few years and in the past few months it had taken a turn for the worst and the wedding was still a couple weeks away. But…she promised, and mothers always keep their promises. They had planned to bring in some help within the next few days, but things just didn’t work out that way. They brought the priest in, and decided it was going to take place right by her bedside.

As joy mixed with sadness they were finally pronounced husband and wife. They turned to her, mom we’re married. And she blinked, one last blink as acknowledgment that she held on, she made it, she witnessed it, she indeed kept her promise. And then… she let go. She was off to a better place, one where there is no such thing as mean mean Cancer, and where her pain and suffering were no longer with her.

Mary and David, I know I said this a million times that night, but you two are truly amazing. Your courage to keep moving during these difficult times is evidence of your strength as a couple, which I truly admire. Mary, I wish I could have been able to meet your mother, but it is clear that she and your father did a remarkable job raising you, and I am sure that she was an amazing woman. I am so excited for what your future holds together as a couple, and thank you for letting me be a part of your day. Love always, Megan Beth

Their ceremony took place at the gorgeous St. Jane Frances de Chantal Parish in Bethesda. And their reception was held at the bomb top floor Capital View ball room at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, Virginia.

Happy Feet

The worst part of my job is having to stand on a dance floor with music pumping, people dancing around me, having a good time and NOT ALLOWED TO DANCE?! Do you realize WHAT KIND OF RESTRAINT THAT TAKES ON MY PART? And that’s with a sucky DJ!

So when my couples hire a BOMB band or DJ, gah, you might as well tie me to the chair with fishing wire. Torture. If you’re looking for a DJ who will make sure the dance floor is full, DJ Roz is modern DJ with a hip-hop edge that you have to check out! Contact him at SteveRoz33@yahoo.com, and make sure you tell him I sent you.

Or if you want an AWESOME band, you have to check out E3 from Richmond, Virginia. They travel all over and certainly know how to keep the party going. They’re a cover band playing 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, Alternative, Funk, Pop, Rock, and top 40. They’re so good at what they do, and offer a little spunk and a spin on all the songs you love.

Stella and Nelson.

Her hair was finished and she slipped into her gorgeous dress. She was beaming and all of her girlfriends couldn’t stop commenting on how stunning she looked. Cause, she did. As she made her way to the church she couldn’t believe that the day she had been waiting for finally arrived, her happily ever after, and Nelson was her prince charming. He reached his hand out to comfort her as she got choked up during their vows and gave an extra squeeze of her hand when she kissed her mother thank you and goodbye. Because, that’s what prince charmings do.

Nelson and Stella, Thank you so much for being so fabulous and up for whatever we suggested. You guys are amazing and I wish you nothing but loads of laughter and happiness. Hope you had an whirlwind time in Bora Bora, I can’t wait to see the pictures. Much Love, Megan

And a huge huge thank you to the uber talented Peter Bang for letting me tag along and shoot with him! Thanks Peter, can’t wait to do it again! Next time lets take the Hummer limo to Georgetown :)

The Big Orange Cat!

Thank goodness they gave me this Garfield bandaide, cause I was two seconds from walking out when the six month old before me was all no you didn just stick me with that ENORMOUS NEEDLE. I’m still not sure how I made it out alive.

Paper Love

I can’t even begin to express my appreciation for my couples who completely include me in their day. It’s the wedding invitation in the mail, the ‘have a piece of cake!’, and the sweetest thank you notes I receive from my clients new friends. They open their hearts and lives to me and I feel blessed to be able to share it with them.

It could be the thick envelope, the pretty stamp, or the fancy cursive writing. But I think it’s a combination of it all. Opening it is like Christmas morning, I know it’s going to be good, but how good. They’re a little sneak peek into the big day, and sets the expectations for one fabulous event. It took me a couple minutes to open these, because I didn’t want to ruin the envelope, but when I finally did I was delighted. Can’t wait for these two weddings and sharing the moments that begin the rest of their lives with each other.

Abby and Andrew: Washington DC engagement session!

Abby and Andrew are awesome. They are so funny, easy going and apparently ‘not good’ in front of the camera. Malarkey I tell you. I can’t wait for their wedding next May in Oxford, Maryland it’s going to be simply fabulous!

First we headed on over to Union Station in DC.

Andrew told me that he gets this awkward face while he’s having his picture taken. Little did he know he was with a photographer with magical anti-Chandler Bing powers.

Breaking ‘the rules.’

I realize that there are those certain subjects in life that you aren’t ’supposed’ to talk about to avoid criticism, and conflict. God. Religion. Political views. War. So here I am breaking the rules. My opinions are just that, my opinions. I am not in any way stating that I am right, and other views are wrong, I’m just saying this is what I think.

I grew up in Annapolis and today I live in Bethesda around the corner from Bethesda Navy Medical center and work in a restaurant just down the street from Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I have many friends in the military and know many who have been deployed. Most people in their haven’t been exposed to this much military, or better yet, this many injured people in military. I see it first hand. Countless times injured Iraqi War Vets have come into the restaurant I work amputated legs, leg blown off, face full of shrapnel scars, wired shut jaw, one arm. It breaks my hearts, and I have to hold the tears back. They don’t deserve this…not one of them. They are fighting for their country and if they come back, the physical wounds and psychological scars are greater than one could ever imagine.

But as terrible as war is, our country has gotten used to it. Used to the war vets, used to seeing Purple Hearts, used to seeing families with a missing fathers/mothers/sons/daughters. And just today, I got a slap in the face. While reading CNN I cam across an article about a six year old Iraqi boy who had been kidnapped by terrorists for two years and been tortured. TORTURED! What had he done? His father was in the police force. I do not know the boy, never met him, he lives half way across the world but I wept for him.

artiraqboycnn

War is ugly. No matter what your opinion on it is, people die. People get blown up. Families are destroyed. ‘Over there’ is a unknown concept to people in the states…if they don’t see it, it’s just a word: war. There are no lives attached to the word. I think that often we are quick to forget that there are people over there fighting a war for us, and putting their lives at risk, and men and women over here fighting for their lives.

Let this little boys’ story be a reminder. People of all ages, all sizes, all kinds are affected by war and all we can do is hope for a better tomorrow.
