FAQ- Megan Beth Photographer- behind the camera

Since wedding season is in full affect, and although I didn’t think it was humanly possible, I am stuck to my computer more than ever before. My fifth arm, if you will. I have images, albums, editing, and emails coming out my ears, and loving every gosh darn second of it. Because of this my brain is slightly fried, and sentences these days are only being formed on an kindergarten level. Usually something along the lines of: Crabs? Yes Please. Needs water soon. And although no one is around to hear it at three in the morning, I often stutter, I.NEED.SLEEP. As you can tell, I’m trying to save the brain cells for adult conversations that I may be forced into having. So, today, I thought I’d do things a little different. Today, I will answer some frequently asked questions. If you like it, and keep asking questions, I will continue. Drum roll por favor.

How did you get started?
I have always had an interest in photography, and had an SLR since I was in high school. I loved photography, and my camera was a permanent fixture. After college, I worked for a government contractor in Annapolis, when I got laid off…22 getting laid off…what the heck?!? So in desperate need of money I got a job in a restaurant. I didn’t really have a choice, but would have rather not considering I went to college, have a degree, and hoped of one day working for the government. Then one day, it dawned on me, why not do something that I love and get paid for it…DUH. Yes, I’m retarded, it took me that many years to figure it out! I shot my best friends’ little sisters wedding and it took off from there. The referrals that I’ve gotten from my past clients are bigger and better than any advertising that I could pay for. So I started my blog and it just soared.

What is your favorite lens?
Hands down 50mm 1.2. The blur, the crisp, it was love at first sight. Although on a much more affordable level, but still super awesome is the 50mm 1.4. I always recommend to people… start off with good lenses. You can always upgrade your camera, but your lenses are where it’s at.

What is your favorite image, ever?
Ever? Geesh. Such a hard time picking ONE. But, it could very well be this one. fav

To continue these FAQ posts, and make it worthwhile, feel free to leave your questions below in the comment section. Anyone, can ask me anything your heart so desires. Photogs, friends, clients, mom, brang it :)

Many Thanks.

I hope everyone had a fabulous Memorial Day, and got to spend it with friends and family. Thank you to the veterans and those who are in the military who serve our country day in and day out, for our freedom. Your bravery and sacrifices do not even compare to our everyday issues.

I had a busy weekend, but did get to spend Sunday with my mother and my aunt. Every year when my aunt comes down we have a tradition, and well…they were my first of the season. DELISH! If you are not from Maryland, and do not know how to pick crabs…call me, THIS IS AN EMERGENCY.

Christina and Ben: Musket Ridge Wedding!

There was once a intern, a very beautiful and gorgeous intern. Then there was a mom. A mom who happened to work with this beautiful intern. Said mom had son who she thought would go perfectly with this beautiful intern. And I guess the moral of the story is that mothers are always right.

Christina and Ben are such an amazing couple. And I mean AH-MAZ-ING, inside and out. Christina has a smile that will light up a room, and a heart of gold. She is funny, kind-hearted and compassionate. Ben is so adorable and loves Christina with all his heart, and is calm as can be. On a day with plans down to the minute, the monsoon style rains and lost shuttle bus didn’t phase Ben. Because really…all that mattered was that one moment…. the moment they had both been waiting for seven years. No monsoon would keep the inevitable from happening, especially if the matchmaker had anything to say about it.

Christina and Ben, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me be there with you guys on your wedding day. Musket Ridge was a perfect setting for your beautiful wedding, regardless of in the weather. You both are amazing people with fabulous friends and the sweetest families in the world. I simply adore you Christina and now know that someone actually reads my blog ;) I hope you guys are having a blast on your honeymoon! Much Love, Megan

Carrie and Matt

I normally don’t cry at weddings. STONE COLD HEART I have. But something was different about this wedding. I watched my sister’s best friend as she put on her white lace dress, shoes, and got the finishing touches on her hair. I stood there listening to the girls as they toasted Carrie and I couldn’t help but have flashbacks of being ‘the little sister’ and seeing them off to dances all dressed up, wishing I could one day be just as cool and as beautiful as they were. As I hid behind my lens, hoping no one would see the tears, not only was I seeing her off, I was witness to the most amazing day of her life.

Carrie and Matt are such an incredible couple. They have huge warm compassionate hearts. Their love is pure, organic, and simple. They surround themselves with nature, family, and friends, who have been there for many years. During the ceremony I looked around and marveled at the amount of people who were there to witness best friends in love, and knew that those who could not be there that day were looking down upon, smiling just as I was.

Carrie and Matt, I cannot thank you enough for letting me be there to document your day. Being able to watch you grow up Carrie, and now watching as you and Matt start your own family means more to me than you will ever know. I feel so so blessed and am excited for what your future holds. Much LOVE, Megan

Carrie and Matt chose to have their wedding at the beautiful Woodlawn Farms in St. Mary’s County.

Matt, straight out of the J.Crew catalog. Lookin’ good!
carriematt023

carriematt016

Matt’s not very good at not smiling. His serious face would last for about 3 seconds then he would burst into laughter. It was so cute.

I love this one because it’s all the Tilley boys and dad watching as Carrie made her way down the aisle.

carriematt029

After the ceremony I overheard Matt telling Carrie’s mom that during the ceremony something came over him, and that he felt enormous joy, and knew that this was the absolute best day of his life. I MAY have shed a few more tears at that moment. Can’t confirm or deny that though ;)
carriematt027

I was in photographer detail heaven. So many adorable little details at the farm.
carriematt003

Sushi tray during cocktail hour! It was yummy! Ok, just kidding, I didn’t have any. I’m allergic and would have swelled up and died. Good thing Carrie’s a nurse practitioner. Although I did hear they were super delish.
carriematt009

carriematt013

I think Matt doubted his ability to look dapper, please convince him otherwise.
carriematt014

carriematt030

I adore these. EVERY LITTLE SINGLE THING ABOUT THEM. Sometimes I have to coach my couples to be affectionate, but with them it was so natural and basically me just capturing their love for each other.

carriematt033

Brian, Carrie’s stepdad and Matt’s brothers gave the most heartfelt and funny speeches.

And if you doubted the amount of fun, and dancing going on, hopefully this shows that it went on till late in the night!

Kathleen and Mike: E-session.

Kathleen and Mike are so stinkin adorable with each other. How he holds her hand, kisses her shoulder and how she beams from ear to ear with a smile, every time she looks at him. Even when I say no smiling!, that big beautiful smile of hers just can’t contain herself when she’s with her best friend. With his gentleness and the way she looks at him, I can tell that their love is absolutely to the core. Kathleen and Mike, I am so excited for August, and can’t wait to get a tour of your new house!

We headed back to the University of Maryland, where they both went to school (me too!), and to where they had a class together. I’m sure they got a ton of work done sitting together in the back ;) Go terps!

Testudo, our mascot, brings good luck if you rub his nose. There are a couple on campus, and many people will leave him gifts. That day we saw a cigarette, a book, pencil, and a Pepsi. Apparently all the things needed to get through school…well minus the cigarette. Yuck Testudo, don’t do it!

Yolanda and Victor

Yolanda and Victor were married in Chicago during a stretch of chilly and rainy days. It rained throughout the morning, and as we were on our way over to the ceremony, the sky cleared and sun came shining through. Certainly no coincidence. Yolanda was super nervous that day, but knew the moment she saw Victor all her nerves would melt away. As they stood up front and affirmed their love for each other Victor got choked up as he was saying his vows. And just as they always had been there for each other for all the years before, Yolanda gently put her hand on his arm to comfort him, letting him know she was there.

Thank you Yolanda and Victor for letting me be a part of your big day! It was so great getting to know you guys, little Victor, and your wonderful families! Hope you had an amazing time in Puerto Rico! Much Love, Megan

And did I mention that they have the CUTEST son EVER. I wanted to take him home with me in my pocket, although I think they would have noticed. Several times during the day he would come up to me and say, ‘ok take my picture….NOW. Ok………NOW. Ok, now!’ And of course, I couldn’t resist!

Coming soon! I know, such a tease :)

Cheesesteak sans Whiz, please.

Last week I headed to Philly for the day to hang out with Regis and Victor Sizemore, while they were there shooting for ‘Shot of a Lifetime’. We had a fun day running around Philly, minus the fact that the contest was canceled due to torrential storms. Although it did mean more free time for us to hang out.

philly04

Here’s Victor setting up his time lapse camera on a lighting rod.
philly05

philly03

And Regis doing video. Work it!
philly02

At lunch time we headed over to Jim’s Steaks for some signature Philly cheese steaks. This isn’t something I would normally eat, but had to cause it’s the law to try one while in Philly. Here is the only shot of us from the day (photographers never remember take pictures of themselves) that I borrowed from Victor’s blog. Mine was sans Whiz.
0003_soal-philly_c0345

And yes, Jim’s Steaks are low-fat ;)
philly01

One of the many ’small’ storms that rolled through, canceling the event.
philly06

Make sure you go on over to Victor’s blog, where you can find the video that Regis shot on the Detroit stop…it’s pretty awesome.
