My lemonade.

A couple of weeks ago, I was scheduled to be in Boston to have a photo session with my cousin’s adorable ten month old son. Not so adorable: the stomach flu he had. So we had to cancel the trip and hopefully reschedule sometime soon.

I was sitting at my desk that night we were supposed to fly out, majorly bummed that we weren’t able to go. At that very moment I saw a photographer in Delaware tweet/facebook post for help for her wedding that weekend. Ummmm HELLLOOOO MEEEE MEEE MEEE, I’ll HELP! as I screamed up and down. You’d think I was in fourth grade again, falling out of my plastic chair, with my hand raised so.very.high. to get the teacher to pick me for line leader. Too bad she couldn’t hear through the computer. But I did shoot her an email in 2.3 seconds with my website, telling her I would LOVE to drive to Delaware to help her.

I held my breath, because well, you know if I let it go I may not get the gig. Refresh. Refresh. Refresh. Darn email, maybe my email isn’t working. Refresh again, and wouldn’t you know, there was a lone new email in my inbox from Laura Novak. I scanned through the email, “hi megan…yadda yaddaa” but really, all I saw was YOU’RE HIRED! I couldn’t believe it. She wanted little old ME to come and shoot with her?! I was SOO excited, and a tad bit nervous.

And my expectations…well, they were exceeded. Laura is everything in this industry that photographers should be, but aren’t. She is super sweet, genuine, and a great teacher. Plus did I mention her work is classic, timeless, and absolutely amazing?! She built her company from ground up, and now has several full time employees. None of which I met, but all of whom she spoke very highly of. So from the very bottom of my wee heart, thank you Laura for letting me come along, I hope you’ll keep me in mind if you ever need someone again.

Next time I get down, I will try to remember that something else will always come along. For when you are given lemons, make lemonade. Or apple juice… if you prefer.

And since no post is complete without an image, here is one I took while I was in Long Island this past weekend. More to come on that soon.

Hoola Hoop.

Although I don’t like when people continuously post videos on their blogs. I had to. Pot. Kettle. Black.

I think you will enjoy this one. A friend told me to check it out, and ended up with laughing tears streaming down my face.

WPPI

Just in case you have been anxiously awaiting the details on my Vegas trip, you need not wait anymore. Although Vegas is not really my scene, I had an awesome time and met some really great friends.

We stayed at the super sized ultra large MGM, so big, they had TWO Starbucks inside!  And it did not disappoint.  Although by the end, I was cursing whoever thought up the layout, for they clearly did not have womens feet in heels, in mind.

I love this image, but mostly love it for my ability to take pictures while hanging out the side of a moving car.

If you had no idea what a photography convention, full of photographers looks like…this about sums it all up.

8AM morning classes. YAY!  As you can tell, I wasn’t really paying attention at 8 o’clock.
wppi_01

My good friend Regis, who was awesome enough to show me the ropes of WPPI! Thank you again Regis!  I owe you…about 50 Starbucks beverages of your choice!  And the awesome Katie Bergen Torres from Atlanta.

This is a terrible picture of me, and the lovely Ryel, who is an amazing photographer from Orange County. Miss you girl!

During the Victor Sizemore shoot, I met Aaron Dieppa and his and super sweet fiance, Barbara.  Thanks again for letting me borrow your sweater!

Here I am trying to not be blown away INTO THE DESERT.  The winds were ridiculous, and me and all my buck five LBS, were trying not to get swept away like Dorothy.

Although In N’ Out Burger may be a daily occurrence for people on the west coast, I have not eaten there in several years.  So before I went through any more withdrawal I made the cab driver stop on our way to the airport, even though I was running late.

wppi_10

YUMMM!  I should have gotten two, to hold me over until next time!

I also met a couple other people who I adore and can’t wait to hang out with again, but sadly do not have any pictures of…but you can find Melanie here, and Brandy and Sticky here :)

PS On a side note and totally unrelated subject: I’m pissed that they are doing construction to the front of my building. The cement dust seeped in through the crappy insulated windows, and now there is a layer on EVERYTHING, and a haze of cement dust throughout my whole apartment! JERKS.

Everyday Shoot, Amanda and Brian

Their laughter is infectious, and their love, well it’s unconditional. Bri you have a booger hanging out of your nose. Amanda and I erupt in laughter. Bayyy-bieeeeeee! in a uber embarrassed and a ‘NO I DON’T TONE’, even though he really did.

Aside from being an adorably cute and gorgeous couple, I’m so lucky that these guys let me shoot them, again. They certainly get all the perks of having a sister who is a photographer. Love you guys!

Professional Photographer

WARNING: FOLKS DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! I am a professional.

Self portraits, while driving in the car, never were my strong suit. But who cares when you’re in a car full of balloons!

More Desert Shooting.

Back while I was in Vegas at WPPI, Victor Sizemore extended me an invitation to come along for a shoot in the desert. And I was all…Victor Sizemore, gorgeous model, and shooting…umm, ok, twist my arm. I’ve never actually seen a desert with my own two eyes, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. And I certainly didn’t expect FREEZING temperatures, gale force winds, and ginormous storms rolling across the mountains. Yikes! But not gonna lie, it was amazing.

Maybe next time they’ll get a better looking model ;)

Thank you Victor for letting me come along! Can’t wait for next year!

Hator-aide

As I sat in the car with Kenny Kim, and [b]ecker I vowed to ‘never join facebook. Never. EVER!’ I just didn’t see the point, and I didn’t need something else to take up my time. Internet, ITAKEITBACK ITAKEITBACK ITAKEITBACK!! Does facebook waste time, yes, but is it benefical in other ways, absolutely. There are experiences that I’ve come across that I couldn’t have gotten any other way.

I’m really excited for this weekend and it just goes to show that when one door closes another one opens. And lets just be honest, no one else stood a chance, as I responded to the tweet/facebook status ad for help, in 1.2 seconds. Saturday is going to be a long day, I can’t wait to meet her, and to share my experience with you when I get back. Be excited.

Video Monday!

Today, in lieu of photos I will show videos. No, they aren’t of me, but they are just too amazing not to share. Happy Monday!

And last, but not least…Bizkit.

Kerry- Sneak Peek

Just thought I’d show you a sneak peek of the shoot I had this weekend with my awesome cousin Kerry. Although I was born in West Virginia, and both my parents went to WVU…I will always be a Terp.

Umm, yea, I thought it went nicely with my outfit. I look like the Gladiator…except tougher, of course.

Going with my gut.

Dear You,

I’m so sorry to be doing this to you, especially so publicly. I have a feeling you had a rough day and I’m sure this just tops it off. I know you feel betrayed, and I understand that, who documents something like that?!, but I had to go with my heart. Besides you were so cold to me, and didn’t even mutter a word, it felt like our paths had just crossed. I only wish you the best, and hope you ‘found your way.’

Sincerely,

Megan Beth
