Blessed.

I had a great day last week. Nothing particularly earth shattering happened like saving the world of global warming or anything..that’s next week. I woke up early-ish and the sky was overcast… just how I like it. And those of you with chronic migraines every day, know EXACTLY where I’m coming from. I had plans for lunch with my dad, so I hopped in my car and headed to Annapolis. Windows down, my hair whipping across my sunglasses…yes I wear my sunglasses when it’s overcast…music rockin’, singing my heart out, and seat dancing.

I love driving to Annapolis. It’s my ‘me-time’. A bajillion things go through my head and take me away from the stresses of life, even if it is only for a 30, ehem… I mean 50 minute drive (hi mom!). Dad and I decided we were going to grab lunch at my favorite, and I mean the best in the tri-state area, pizza place Bella Italia. After lunch we ran a bunch of his errands cruising around in his 530IL…what what, we got his car washed just minutes before it started to sprinkle, stopped at Staples, then headed to Marshall’s to pick up some cold weather pull-over shirts for him. We invested in a new lens for me, I say invested because the whole lens costs more than a contract to get your face on the Wheaties box, and then lounged on the couch watching Law and Order. Could the day get more perfect?? Of course. Dad agreed to try out the new Online ordering from Outback, and I was outta my seat faster than a fourth grader in their plastic desk chair for 3 hours, and up the steps on the computer ordering.

As I was cruising home, I was looking up at the big bright moon, the colors of the changing trees, and thinking about how wonderfully blessed I am. I have such an amazing family that I love spending time with, a roof over my head, a wonderful car to get me from A to B, food in my belly, and an awesome job that I am so passionate about. There is nothing more could I ask for.

I’m worried about the pizza place…I don’t think they keep their inventory well stocked :)

I had never felt so strong.

It was the dark of night, and only another car in front of me and mine were on the road.  We were on our way to meet someone at 8:30, and I insisted that my mom listen to my favorite song on my Kanye cd… “they say you don’t know what you got, till it’s gone.”   A pickup truck (on a road perpendicular to the highway) was coming down a hill approaching the stop sign to enter onto the highway.  The Hyundai in front of me was only two car lengths away… and then everything went in slow motion as I watched the pickup truck.  It seemed that the truck didn’t even attempt to tap the brake pedal, in fact it seemed to pick up speed as it rolled down the hill and through the stop sign.  We watched in disbelief, as the pick up truck gained momentum, and barreled through the passenger side of the car, forcing it across the lanes of traffic.  The pickup truck, not phased by the destruction of the car, kept going across the opposite lanes of traffic where it came to a screeching halt, plowing into a huge tree.

We had to swerve ourselves to evade the Hyundai and we were in shock with what just unfolded in front of our eyes.  We were the only people on the road and I pulled over and jumped out of the car as mom called the police.  It seemed as if it was an hour, but everything unfolded in only a matter of seconds.  I ran over to the Hyundai — its front end was completely crushed and I noticed a girl stuck inside slumped over the stearing wheel.  My heart dropped because she wasn’t moving and I started yelling at her, and thankfully she started moaning.  The car was smoking and I was afraid it was going to blow up.  I had to get this girl out.  I pulled her body out of her seat so she was laying back on me, in between my legs, and her right leg was still stuck in the wreckage.  She screamed in agonizing pain.  Come on girl…we have got to get you outta this car.

I am by no means big, and well…she had a few pounds on me.  I have never tried so hard to move something in my entire life.  And there was no question about it…I was going to move her away from the smoking car.  We made a deal she would use all her might to lean on her left leg as I fireman- pulled her till I had to rest again.  Finally I got her to the grassy median and put her head in my lap as I realized what just happened.  Mom ran over and thank-god said help was on its way.  We sat in the median with Patrina, trying to comfort her, as we noticed that on her right leg her bones were coming out of her jeans.  She was crying and I was shaking.  I heard the sirens and couldn’t wait for them to get there.  Patrina was alive, but in excruciating pain…the pickup truck still stopped against the tree on the other side of the road.

And just like that she was wisked away in the ambulance.  We searched in the newspaper, and internet for information about what had happened or how she was doing.  Nothing.  I had been haunted about what happened that night.  If we were only moments earlier…it would have been us.  Then out of nowhere we got a letter in the mail: Subpoenaed to appear on October 9, 2008 for a drunk driving case: State of Maryland v.  Shawn Ryan.

Armin - Talk about timing, you & your mom were fortunate… and Patrina was fortunate you were there to get her out of the car. Yep, sounded like either the truck was getting away from someone/something or DUI. Good luck with the case… maybe they’ll plea, who knows. Glad you guys are safe.October 11, 2008 – 9:17 am

Chaz and Steve

I had been checking the weather everyday up until that Saturday…not good.  Then Friday night as I was going to bed, the skies opened up and poured buckets. In the back of my mind I knew everything would work out, and so did Chaz. And it did, when I arrived Saturday morning the sun was shining just as brightly as Chaz was.

Chaz and Steve are two amazing people with such a laid-back, relaxed outlook on life, and their wedding reflected that completely.  The most important things to them in life, are their family and their friends.

WARNING: There is tons of awesomeness ahead. Due to my inability to narrow it down a few fabulous pics this post is longer then normal. Grab your coffee, sit back and enjoy!

Amazingly sweet moment.

It’s obvious why Owen is so adorable…because his mom is so stunning. She looks like a modern day Grace Kelly.

I love the look on her face when she sees Steve for the first time.

Chaz had mentioned to me earlier that she wasn’t photogenic…yea, sure…not photogenic.

Did I mention Steve models for Polo…ok not really…but he should. So good looking!

Lookin all GQish.

These two are my absolute favorites from the day!

Steve couldn’t stop looking at her during the first dance.

Best man speech.

Check out their sweet ride!

Chaz and Steve, thank you so much for not only letting me be a part of your big day, but befriending me. Your family and friends made me feel so welcomed and at home. Best wishes in all you do! Love, Megan Beth

Peggy J. Edens - Hi Meagan,
You may not remember me but I am Chaz’s Grandmother. The one who missed the pics at the church and you had to take some of me with Chaz and Steve on the beach. Just wanted to let you know that I am truly amazed at the photos. You brought out the true beauty of Chaz not to mention how handsome Steve looks. I would love to see all of the photos. You do great work!October 31, 2008 – 10:08 pm
