Adventures of Little Regis.

I had been ranting and raving about Freedom to Succeed tour even before I went to it…and after I got home from it, my roommate certainly heard an earful. Pricing, freedom, Lightroom…all completely foreign to her, but if it meant that I would grow as a photographer, she was more then willing to hear me out.

In select cities, after the tour had made their stops, they hid a single little paper cartoon of themselves. The catch was…if you found it, it was worth $500 in Show It products. I had been checking David Jay’s blog everyday, several times a day, just to see if the video of where they hid Regis was posted, and if it was…I would have to jump in my car and drive into DC. Finally I got home from work one night and it was posted. Barnes and Noble on 12th and E. I told my roommate, Alexandra all about it and my plans to get up at 730 the next morning to go on my mission. Unfortunately, getting up early is not my strongest suit. So…she was going to wake me up on her way out the door to the gym. Perrrfect.

Watch the video to find out what happened:

and P.S. My birthday is next Friday, the 26th :)

9/11

I stood in the Humanities building frozen. And watching. Watching the replay of the airplane flying into the building. How could someone not see the World Trade Center???

Then the second one hit.

It was clear, we were being attacked. Panic struck, and students were running to the parking lot to get to their cars and rush home.  I sped home to an empty house and was in awe watching the tv. Then the Pentagon was hit. Another plane went down in a field. I was beside myself. We were being attacked everywhere. I sobbed uncontrollably to the point that I gave myself a headache. I got a blanket, and laid down on the couch. I decided to take a nap. I truly did not believe I would wake up.

Dear God,

If this nap will be the end of the road for me, please don’t wake me. I want to go in peace.  And if I don’t make it through, please tell my mother, father and sister that I love them so very much.

Seven years ago they won. It worked. They spread terror. But now we are stronger, and will not be defeated. We will keep this country safe for ourselves, our children and those to come. Today we sit, reflect, hope, and pray that we never again have to feel the pain of September 11, 2001.

Slàinte.

My dad has sailing in his blood. And clearly I didn’t get the ‘sailing DNA’.

Since my dad has gotten worse over the last year or so,  it has taken a huge toll in every aspect of his life.  Including…his passion for sailing.  In the beginning we strongly encouraged him not to go out alone on the boat, now it has gotten to the point where he said he was ‘scared’ to even try and get on it. Seeing something he loves ripped out from under his feet, puts a hole in my i.hate.sailing.  heart.

There has to be a way…something…anything…heck we can put him in a fork lift and lift him over the boat and plop him in.  We needed to get him into his sailboat and let the sun shine down on him, breath the bay air, test out his sea legs, and rock with the wake, on a boat which not so long ago was his life.

We devised a plan…one that involved three very rusty ‘crew members’. We would take the dingy out to the boat ourselves, go through the Eastport draw bridge, navigate the 38 foot Morgan through the busy Annapolis harbour and swing by a dock that he could step on over…somewhat.

We had to do it…for him.

And as the sunset danced on the water and we came back in, I saw his face, and I thought to myself this isn’t so bad…especially if it brings him to a place that he loves.

Please keep her in mind.

When I woke up this morning I found out that Alex, a girl that I work with at Olazzo, was struck in the early morning hours, while on foot by a ‘hit and run’. She is at a local hospital listed in serious condition in a coma. Today is her 22nd birthday.
